The Best Way To Stop Telemarketers – Some Valuable Lessons

If you’re tired of telemarketers calling, you don’t need to keep putting up with their frustrating calls. There are ways you can make the telemarketing calls stop. The method you choose really depends on what best suits you, how many telemarketer calls you receive, and the type of telemarketing calls you are receiving.

The first, and most important, step to stop the telemarketing calls is to register your phone number with the Federal Trade Commission’s National Do Not Call Registry. You can register by visiting donotcall.gov Simply click the “Register a Phone Number” tab and follow the directions provided. Once you are registered, keep in mind that it will take several months from the time you register before the telemarketing calls will reduce.

The second step is to politely tell telemarketers who phone you to “put my number on your do-not-call list”. By law, telemarketing companies must comply with your request, and must remove your number from their call list for 10 years when you specifically tell them to put your number on their do-not-call list. However, keep in mind that in order for this method to work, you need to actually tell the telemarketer before you hang up.

The third step is to have your phone number removed from the public record. One of the ways telemarketers can obtain your phone number is through your phone company. Many phone companies sell information to third parties. Therefore, you should call your phone company and ask them to no longer list your number. Keep in mind that your phone company will likely charge you a small monthly fee for the service.

Finally, it is important that you know that the National Do Not Call Registry does not stop certain telemarketers such as political organizations, telephone surveyors, and charities from calling you. Therefore, in these situations you may find caller ID useful. Caller ID enables you to see who’s calling prior to answering, and allows you to block your number from callers that do not allow you to identify them. If you do not have caller ID, simply contact your phone company and order the service.

If you ever get really annoyed with a telemarketer or another annoying caller, and want to vent- you can vent about annoying calls here.
